It was dusk out on the savannah. Everything seem to be in perfect balance, except for a huge white building with smoke coming out of the towers. It looked disturbing on the outside, but it was even worse inside. The hallways seemed endless and its dead silence was uncomfortable. The place felt like a hospital. Down the long corridor, some footsteps were approaching. These footsteps belonged to a tall man who had shaggy black hair, and wore a white lab coat plus goggles pushed above his forehead.
       He walked through a pair of doors into a room where the hospital monitors were hooked to three giant test tubes that reached from the floor to the ceiling. They were monitoring the brain waves and heartbeats of the tubes’ occupants. The Professor turned to one of his assistants who watched the monitor screens.
       “How are my subjects doing?” he asked.
       “Good sir. We might have a chance at waking them up.” the first assistant answered.
       “Excellent. When they finally take their first breaths into the world, they will make me famous for bringing in some enhanced species!” he said excitedly, patting one of the test tubes. It was filled with liquid to sustain the experiments and was lit up. Inside the watery cell was a lioness curled up in a seemingly eternal sleep, floating calmingly in the water. She had blue fur and a cerulean colored turf which it extended as long as a human’s arm. But the most interesting part of this creature was that she bore a purple crescent moon with an eight-pointed white star on her forehead.
       The Professor stared at his creations with a feeling of great satisfaction. He was lost in his thought when the voice of his assistant pulled him back to reality.
“Professor! I’m getting a reading. I think you may want to see this,” he rushed over to her side to see what was going on.
       “What are you talking about?”
       “I think they’re starting to wake up, I’ve never seen readings like this before!”
       “My experiments are going to come to life!” the Professor said happily.
       “What are you going to do once they’re functioning?” the assistant asked.
       “My dear Mai, I’m planning to release experiments E.M. and R.A. into our enclosure so they can grow their survival skills. But my precious experiment L.U. on the other hand…” he turned to look at the blue lioness and smiled, “…I’m planning to keep her as my pet. I’ll show her to the whole genetics world what I’m capable of creating. I shall never sell her for anything!”

       Where am I…? What am I…? I hear voices, but what do they mean…? Where is it coming from…? experiment L.U. thought with her eyes sealed tight.

       They’re talking, said a voice in her brain.

       Huh? Who’s there?

      It’s me, E.M! Or at least that’s what they call me,
       Deep within L.U.’s mind, she saw a tan lioness appear. She looked like any other lioness, but her lean belly and small turf were snow white. She had deep emerald green eyes; and a pair of dragonfly wings.

       Wha-what’s going on? L.U. asked wearily.

       I’m not sure… replied E.M.

      I don’t know much either, but I do know that those are people talking, said a second voice and experiment R.A. appeared as well. This experiment seemed to be a cross breed between a wolf and a house cat. She had a grey coat but faded into black at her paws, ears, muzzle and the tip of her fluffy tail. Behind her shoulders was a pair of tiny, stubby bird wings that stuck out at each side. Its tips were also black but it gradually faded into white.

       So, it’s people that are talking? L.U. asked.

       Yeah, they’re humans, said E.M.

       What are they going to do with us?

       I don’t know… but it seems that they’re trying to wake us up. R.A. commented.

       “Sir we’re getting  some brain activity on all three experiments.” Mai announced.
       “Hmm… what’s going on with them?”
       “They seem to be interacting with one another.”
       “How is that possible?”
       “They’re using telepathy by the looks of this.” she replied, pointing to L.U.’s monitor screen, which was coded with blue lines. Gray and tan lines were appearing – R.A. and E.M.’s brain waves were in L.U.’s mind!

       Wake us up? L.U. asked. Both E.M. and R.A. nodded. But aren’t we already awake?

       No… you have to wake up… both R.A. and E.M. started to fade from L.U.’s mind.

       Wake up? Is that all I have to do?

       “Professor!! Experiment L.U. is starting to come out of her sleep mode!” Mai exclaimed. The Professor immediately looked up and was finally seeing something he had been waiting for: L.U.’s eyes slowly but surely started to open, exposing her stunning turquoise eyes to the world.
       “Quickly Mai! Drain the water before she starts to breath in water and drown!” the Professor commanded.
       “Yes sir,” she replied and quickly entered a code on the computer, within moments, the water was drained and L.U. collapsed onto the cold floor when Mai opened up her chamber. The Professor grabbed a nearby towel and rushed over to his experiment, hoping that he didn’t lose his precious subject. He kneeled down next to her and started to gently dry her fur with the towel. “She’s simply magnificent!”
       “Sir, the other two experiments are starting to wake up as well.”
       “Good, drain their water as well and send in my other assistants so they can attend E.M. and R.A.”
       “Yes sir,” she pushed a black button and in seconds, three more assistants came into the room.
        What’s going on now? L.U. thought. Why do I feel so weak? with effort, she moved her eyes and saw the Professor.
       “I have some special plans for you my dear.” the Professor said softly, stroking her side.
        Who’s he? What’s he going to do with me? L.U. felt her eyes closing again. She tried to stay awake but being trapped inside a water chamber for a long time hadn’t done much good. She passed out as the Professor continued to stroke her thoughtfully.
